Mougins / France

Frederic De Fontenay is a self- taught painter, born in Paris in 1957. His passion for painting started at the young age of 15. In an attempt to unveil his talent, he reproduced Rembrandt’s golden helmet with a surprising accuracy of reproduction. He also perfected his technique and knowledge of colors while working as a lithographer. He spent five years drawing for Dali, Vasarely, Peynet and Brasilier. In 1989, he held a first art exhibit as a tribute to Greece, in the Lavoir de Mougins, with the title “Blue and White”. All the intensity of the Mediterranean heat radiates through his work. In 1989, he exhibited at the Majestic in Cannes. In 1991, he opened his studio in the village of Mougins with paintings of the area surrounding Provence and its local characters. In 1992, he exhibited in Paris. In 1993 and 1994 he held an exhibit in Salon de Provence. In 1994 and 1995, his paintings were exhibited in Sydney, Australia. 1995-98,he exhibited in Roussillon, in the Vaucluse, at the Galerie Compagnie des Ocres. 1999-2009, his studio in Mougins became a permanent exhibit.
