Présentation
Dominique Vanrykel was born in Liège in 1965.
As well as being an art teacher and teacher of information technology, he keeps his passion for art in everyday life as well as in his professional life;
Through his little character called “La Palette” which is a thread through his work, he lets you discover his own universe made of rhythm, joy of life, frailty and comic strips influence.
Maybe you can discover in his works a touch of admiration for his favourite artists: Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Miro, Franck Stella or Jasper Johns.
He stills favours a mixture of techniques and a variety of techniques even if he admits to favouring acrylic paint, assembling and lino-engraving.
At the basis of his compositions you find humour, the freedom of using mixed techniques, a sense of derision, the smile of bright colours, some aesthetic rules such as that of complementary colours or the golden number, which make up his paintings.
He also makes use of “flat depth” which gives the viewer a feeling of living with the characters which overflow the borders of the frame.
Part of this artist’s motto are: having fun in creating, innovating and imagining a world of cheerfulness. His only regret is that he can not exhibit regularly.
Ambition can be overweening but real life is unpretentious: keep painting and never stop painting and finding a way to happiness in so doing for both the viewer and the creator.
