THE ENGRAVING TECHNIQUE: AQUANTINT AND MIXED TECHNIQUE

The copper plaque is prepared in order to avoid any grease stain.

Creation of a matter:

1 - We design with asphalt the appearance of the desired matter.
2 - The colophane grains (resin) are placed over the surface of the plaque with the help of a grain tin.
This dense and uniform resin dust is heated until it melts, then it becomes transparent and gets fixed to the metal.
3 - The plaque is immersed in acid (iron chloride III).
The surface is corroded. The asphalted parts are preserved.
4 - This process is repeated again. The plaque is immersed in the acid several times in gradual periods.
5 – A curettage tool is used to reduce the contrasted effects of the achieved matter.

The aquatint technique :

The aquatint technique is an engraving procedure which is used to create chromatic zones.

The plaque is placed inside the grain tin and it is heated and immersed in the acid solution once. The work consists in modelling the parts of the object that we want to make appear by using a curettage tool.

The printing:

The ink is distributed along the whole surface of the paint roller so it can come through the cavities.
The ink surplus is removed with the help of tarlatans.
The plaque is printed over a humid paper. The paper, soften by the water, gofers and goes looking for the ink in the bottom of the carvings and in the smallest cavities.
The printing appears reversed in comparison with the image used in the copper plaque.
