Présentation

Samira Nehmé's talent began to gain recognition after university and art studies in Beirut and the Rome Fine Arts Academy. She has held several solo exhibitions in Lebanon and abroad, taking part in all the collective exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Fine Arts. In 1973, she won a four year scholarship to Italy to continue her studies, gaining the international 3rd prize for painting in Foggia, Italy. The following year she was appointed to the Lebanese University of Fine Arts as a teacher of painting.
The world of Samira Nehmé proposes a perpetual enchantment where life and dream both meet. The artist has perfectly understood that painting demands a constant and unpredictable adventure of the imagination and of the hand, that the artist must remain ready to seize to the best of his ability the signs of the universe and set them down instantly on the empty canvas.
Her colours have the resonance and wash of a first freshness. How can one avoid being captivated by vibrant pinks, clear lilacs, azure and cerulean blues? In all her works, the colouring in the faint pinks and tender blues evokes the soft glow of the moon reigning over a world of dreams.
The seasons and the elements lie at the heart of this artist's creations; through their transparencies, forest and tree, sea and sky seem to the surface, emerging from silence. Animal and plant life meet and emerge into one another, unless it is that their silhouettes introduce unexpected resonance in a space that is purely marvelous".
