Martine JASMIN was born in Reunion Island in November 1961. She still lives there. In 1983 she goes on safari to Kenya for the first time and quickly becomes enamoured with the bush. Then in 1989 she leaves Reunion Island to spend one year in South Africa. Over there she is offered a temporary job in a lodge: Bongani Lodge in Mpumalanga Province. That great experience strengthens her passion for the wild . She always has been interested in artistic creation. When she was a child drawing was one of her favourite hobbies but it’s only in 2000 that she decides to start painting. Then she learns oil painting with a local artist and four months later, just after an umpteenth safari in Africa, she creates her first wildlife painting: “Warming-up”. Martine did not study art at “ les Beaux Arts “ school. She is a self-taught artist. She has travelled extensively but her favourite destination remains african bush. She has frequently visited National Parks and Game Reserves and consequently learnt a lot about wildlife and animal behaviour. She just loves the peaceful atmosphere of the bush and of the desert. To her the best sound of the wild is a roaring lion at night. Martine is specialized in wildlife in its environment but she also enjoys painting flowers, fruit, landscapes and other subjects. She is very keen on wildlife photgraphy too. Martine works primarily in oils . Her work tends to be realistic and comprises lots of details. In 2009 her artwork “ Simply beautiful” has been shortlisted and selected for the Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition at the Mall Galleries , London between 1st – 6th June 2009.
