Fairy Land. Footprints on the sand. Colours of song and earth. We find all that written in the heart of human being between light and shade. Jean-Yves LESAGE belongs to the artists who have forgotten nothing : neither the sorrows, neither the fears, neither the delights (joys). But in his world, everything begins in a big burst of laughing There is no derision in his work, but there are games, sensuality, seriousness and pleasure. His rhythm carries us in hide-and-seek game, where we are in turn cat and mouse. His truth seems to be in this duality. He does not want to choose between, so the action bounces again and again according to his mood or the mood of the spectator. The painter uses signs that he carves on the beach. Beach he created on the canvas for us. Maybe a wave will cover the drawings, but we know that the most beautiful castles are the one taken away by the sea to shelter the mermaids. This dreamer has worked in the industrial world. When he understood that his creativity could find anymore its gist (substance) in the material world, he knows how to turn back and to search our buried resource : childhood. But today, it is an fully experienced adult which tells us the essential : a red for the flame, a black to claw, a white for the search(quest), a blue for teaching, a yellow for warmth, a curl to calm down and drive, a vertical for harshness and madness to surprise. Like BRAQUE, he controls the shape, fix it in its flight so that our reassured spirit lets life go away. It will not be a dove, but the French kiss of two little fishes which will outline the infinite. His Jacob's ladders are also games of Go and labyrinths. His work is firework which bond , on the stardust, together water and sky. Because of Jean-Yves LESAGE's work, we find back the white stone of our way home, we triumph of the bad guys and we are becoming the princes of the fairyland. Régine MINET |
