Alan KINSEY
Peintre
Art Director in an advertising agency in England and free-lance illustrator in France untill 1995, since when he has devoted himself entirely to painting. Born in 1948 in England, Alan Kinsey is passionate about black american music and pours that passion back into his art, whether he is painting a blues guitarist, a pianist's hands or a lonely kid leaning in a doorway. He has a great belief in the power of words and phrases taken out of context and often incorporates lines of rock poetry or blues lyrics half buried in the paint, and even bits of newspaper headlines ripped-out and pasted on the surface of the painting. He is also interested in distorting images from the internet and incorporating street graffitti and torn posters into his work to complement images of people in the street to try and convey alienation and the loneliness of modern urban life.
He has exhibited in London and in Sète, Montpellier and Monaco in France. His work was selected for the 2nd International Jazz Art Competition 1998 and exhibited at the Jazz Gallery, New York.
He is, at present, selling his work through a London agent, Thomas Corman Arts, and his paintings are now in private collections in the USA, the United Kingdom and Europe.
