1922-2001. Alexandre Gregoire is universally recognized as one of the best of the first generation of naive artists. His works are part of the Permanent collection at The Milwaukee Art Center. His work stands alongside some of the greatest -Primitive Art- of all time, like the work of Anselm Boix-Vive from France or Yvan Rabuzin from Yugoslavia, and closer to home, Philomé Obin, Hector Hyppolite, Jasmin Joseph... to name a few of our historical masters. In a time of uncertainty about the future of Haitian art, it is important to rediscover the national legacy that great Haitian Artists such as Alexandre Gregoire have produced during their passage and pay a fitting tribute to the great service they have rendered our people.
