Following his graduation at Norwich, one of England's last independent art schools, he worked as a graphic designer at the BBC. He then spent some time travelling in New Zealand with his wife and daughter as a designer and photographer, before returning to England to set up his own consultancy near London.
He worked in marketing, design and corporate identity, doing projects for major international companies as well as smaller ones, in industries such as oil, clothing, computing, automotive products, alternative holidays and business development (the DTi). He also consulted on environmental issues such as public and private transport in the UK, he developed and marketed a product, and continues to further his interest in 'green' issues.

He also practiced professional photography. His extensive portfolio contains architectural, industrial and fashion work. In the late 1980's, he conceived, designed and photographed many calendars using glamorous models in exotic locations, as well as fashion photography which found its way into several top magazines such as Vogue, Country Living and Esquire.
This wide range of experience has proved invaluable in developing his vision and his approach to art. In the early nineties he was fortunate to spend many weekends with a community of artists at the home of the late Stanley Kubrick, the film director, who lived near him in the UK, and whose wife is an accomplished artist in her own right. Here, he experimented with new methods and media, before setting up his own studio in Marbella, Spain, where he now lives.

In recent years he has held several successful exhibitions at his home, in London, in local galleries, and at Artexpo in New York. Much of his work is commissioned or bought by private collectors direct from his studio.

His work is varied, original, developmental and energetic. Using primarily monoprinting, pastels, oil and graphite, Lewis uses life drawing to build a discipline to produce increasingly intuitive work.
