Gabriel ESCALANTE

Born in Valparaíso, CHILE, in 1947, Gabriel Escalantes deep passion for old vessels and urbane landscapes and their environment was clearly kindled by his home town, Valparaíso, with their old and poetic streets. As a schoolboy, he could often be found walking and observing the beauty of his city and everything what may be interesting for his nature conditions and sensibility for the art of painting. In his paintings, Gabriel, Escalante has earned a very good reputation for his talent and finely art details, he creates the illusion of the light and atmosphere emanating from within his paintings and has demostrated a magical flair of making sidewalks glisten following a rainstorm, or the transparency of the breaking waves. The quality of his art works technique had been compared with some british prestigious artists, like Thomas Somerscales and Montague Dawson. As a result, he has fulfilled many longheld ambitions and over the last six years his work became more widely known. He has had exhibitions in several Art Galleries from Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, and in the United States. This shows have contributed to his international reputation and critical acclaim. ' And in the next future he has been invited from other Galleries of Paris and Canada. Many of his paintings has been acquired by several art collectors from United States and Europe. He works mainly to commisions in oil. On last October 1998 he has inaugurated his own Art Gallery at the city of Viña del Mar, Chile, loccated in Av. San Martín 441, in which he exhibit usually marines, and urban landscapes from Valparaíso, his home town. Gabriel Escalante currently lives in Viña del Mar, Chile.
