The intensity of her colours comes from a layering technique that the artist likens to layering sheets of coloured glass. Sometimes she paints up to 18 layers together, letting each one dry before applying the next layer.
Her paintings resonate with the same vibrant energy that she brings to the rest of her life, including her lifelong passion for sailing and the sea.
An honours graduate of the renowned Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, Dorset Norwich-Young settled in the garden city of Victoria on the west coast of Canada with her husband Derek, two large dogs, and Mr. Bootes the cat. Together they populate Sea Blossom Studio, where Dorset creates her award-winning watercolours and oversees the publishing and distribution of her limited edition prints.
Her paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions and at art shows from Victoria to Beijing. Several of them also appear in the motion picture ?A Day in the Life?. A popular lecturer, Dorset was recently guest speaker for the Federation of Canadian Artists and guest artist for a pilot art program at the BC Ferries Corporation.
Public Collections of her work include the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC, and the City of Victoria Collection, Victoria BC. Her work is in private collections in Canada, the US, England, the West Indies, Japan, Pakistan, Austria, and Germany. 

     Dorset Norwich-Young's original watercolour paintings sparkle. They are bright and decisive yet still incorporate the signature subtle blended washes traditional to the medium.
