André Depouilly has worked on his own since 1967. Chevalier des Arts & Lettres (Arts & Litterature) in 1989 and Officier des Arts et lettres since 1997.
The art of drawing and mouvement. "A painter and an illustrator for more than 30 years, is better known in the United Sates than he is in France, apart from Paris, where he has regular shows. He has been studying in the workshop of Paul Colin where graphic arts were favoured. The pre-eminence of the line is found in his work but Depouilly is also the painter of mouvement and colour. He can approach any subject but his most outstanding compositions present women who appear multiplied. His young servants and ballet dancers, often dressed in white, stand lighly and gracefully on the canvas. One shoud also point out that his work on paper reveals in a more spontaneous manner his talents as a draughtsman."
