ALFRED GOCKEL’s biography                                               Alfred Gockel was born in 1952 near Münster, Germany. His first work of art was published at the age of 8 years old by a German publisher. In his childhood he worked as a miner at 700 meter depth. Because of this experience he uses self-prepared tar in his acrylics.
He studied at the Polytechnic Art University in Münster.
Alfred Gockel became well known and recognized in Germany.
Since 1983 until 2006, >100 million open editions were internationally sold to framers, art & design shops and galleries.
In 1990 he bought a silkscreen printer and started a collection of original limited, hand-signed silkscreen prints, mainly abstracts.
During his travels he has met Salvador Dali and Miro and he’s a great admirer of Chagall, Kandinsky and Picasso.
In the United States he was impressed by the art of Jasper Johns and Jackson Pollock.
From 1985 on his artwork was presented at the Art Expo NY.
Since then he’s renowned in the US.
In 2006 Alfred Gockel designed the official American version of the Olympic Games Affiche, (held in Turin, Italy) during these Games an Olympic exhibition of 60 acrylics have been exposed in Atlanta US.
From 2003 Alfred does art lectures and action-painting-performances at cruise ships, art events and charity-auction events. Since then Alfred stays 1 or 2 weeks per month in the US doing art-tours.
In 2008 he founded the artgroup Quadriga, which is about etching, woodcut, linoleum and lithograph.
Alfred Gockel’s high-quality etchings reflect the craftmanship of his inspirators: Picasso, Mirò, Chagall, Dali and Dürer.

Alfred Gockel was involved in 'Ruhr Essen European Cultural Capital 2010 Manifestation with a huge sculpture of 4,5 m height (!),
The sculpture is about 2 coalminers who lean forwards against each other and share 3 legs.

ADAC (German Car Assistance Company) in Germany asked Alfred Gockel to create a Cortensteel sculpture with a size of± 11 m length x 3 m width x 7 m / ± 36x10x23 feet height, 8 angels who carry a yellow helicopter. This sculpture is placed along the Highway A1 and A2 where the 2 most important German highways cross on a hill of 18 meters / 54 feet high and where daily >220.000 vehicles pass.

His unique brushstrokes on the bright colour palette makes his artwork very recognizable.
Alfred paints equal to a musician in a flow of smooth rhythm and syncopations.
This signature is represented in all the media Alfred works with.
During the vernissage he uses to paint live an oversized canvas, so visitors have the privilege to see the master work during the creative process.
It’s amazing to see how he inspires the audience and then starts immediately concentrated to continue his painting with accurate, gentle brushstrokes; sometimes with two hands painting at the same time.
Since 6 years now Alfred Gockel creates sculptures (bronze, silver-alloy and acrylic).
There are sculptures built in steel and aluminium of more than several meters height and also in small sizes as limited editions.
